This was a genuine find! I loaded the kids in the car and started down Route 27. On the left I spotted a fun little shop with hand painted furniture and high end chachkas. There they were-- 7 ( Why seven?) blue and white hand painted stoneware plates—origin unknown. I loved them because they reminded me of the Chinese porcelains,I saw throughout the Orient but with a looser brush stroke and a freer hand. Or were they reminding me of the Portuguese and Italian ceramics without all the color??—a quieter palate that matched my mood. It didn’t matter where they came from or who was the artisan who made them, I had the perfect place for them on my shelves.
