Its image, the Golden Esperen plum is a cultivar of Prunus domestica derived from the Drap D’or plum, mentioned as early as 1675. The Golden Esperen is an improved variety, first obtained by Major Esperen of Malines around 1830, fruited in 1844, and propagated by Louis Berckmans. It is similar in taste to the mirabelle plum and its melting flesh is said to be juicy and sweet.
