Turquoise Drip Italian Ceramic Vase
Southern Italy
Handmade ceramic vase by the Italian ceramist, Onofrio Arone who I met at a show in Paris. The vessel has a rounded hand-wrought form, open top, warm terracotta interior, and a glossy turquoise glaze with vertical drip markings in blue, aqua, white, and touches of exposed clay. The surface is highly textured and irregular, showing the movement of the glaze and the hand of the maker. Use as a vase, vessel, or decorative object.
Curator Notes
This one feels like water in motion. I like the way the glaze runs down the form — not neatly, not politely, but with that loose summer energy I am always drawn to. It has the color of a pool, but the warmth of clay underneath, which keeps it from feeling too pretty.
