Antique Double Wire Birdcage , 19th Century Chinese
HongKong
Large, functional double bird cage, iron bar framework with metal wire bars lashed into place with wrapped thin wire. Although each compartment shares a common wall, each side has a door that is held closed with a wire that is raised and removed to open the doors. The bottom half of the cage is square, but the domes rise into a beehive shape. Each dome is firmly attached to a wooden yoke with a hanging hook in the center. It has an old finish of black paint that shows wear and some light rust. A heavy, beautifully engraved chain is used to hang the birdcage.
