Vintage Iron Menorahs
Jerusalem, Israel
These vintage pieces are replicas of a Hanukah menorah from 14th century southern Europe. Made in Israel these pieces are a cast metal that has aged over time.
There are 8 wells that would be filled with oil, a wick added and let each night over the 8 days of the holiday. At the top was the “Shamos” which was the main candle and which was lit every night.
We always thought the designs were reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch motifs or Scandinavian pen and ink drawings. How wrong we were these were motifs from Northern Africa and Israel.
